Meeting in Slovenia

We went to Slovenia to Erasmus+ project with three teachers and eight students. We stayed with host families. I think being in this kind of trip was very interesting and fun. I was a little scared and nervous at start but after a few nights with the family everything was great. You have to be very social and you have to be ready to eat a lot. The best thing in this trip was to get new friends. If you are going to participate on that kind of trip, you have to be ready to talk to total strangers. People are different and they have different manners and it’s hard to feel comfy with it in so short time. Traveling with teachers is sometimes hard, but it’s still nice. It’s different to travel with teachers than with your own family. I could definetly go again to Erasmus+ project.

During our trip we noticed that Slovenian are really positive and very social. We were surprised that during the school day there weren’t any breakes in the yard. Slovenian adults had shorter working days than Finnish adults. They have a tradition in city of Ptuj that big hairy monsters (Kurant) tried to expel the winter away. Population in Slovenia is considerably smaller than in Finland.

Living with Slovenian family was great and good experience. Food was good and people were very nice. I met their relatives and they were really nice too. During the trip to Slovenia there was a carnival which was very interesting.

At the beginning it was little bit weird to stay with strange family and people that I hadn’t met before. However I managed to get used to it surprisingly quickly. As an experience the trip was very unique and I found some positive and negative things while living with the family. Customs and habits of the family was somehow different than in our own family. . Indoor footwear was recommended to use at school as well as at home. We ate salad from the different plate than the main food. Maybe the biggest difference was that salad was eaten by hand – of course not in every family. The most favorable food was chicken. We ate chicken almost with every meal. Every meal was also offered with soup. Many families had also pets.

The school building in Slovenia, Ptuj was small and nice. Classes were about same size that in our school. School had a nice and clean cafeteria. There were about 400 students. Students were nice at school and seemed that they are happy to go to school.

We went to Slovenia practise robotics and programming. In Slovenia we studied robotics in workshops whit new friends from different coutries. We got a challenge that we have to built a robot. The robot needed to go through the challenge. In the challenge first you needed program the robot to go to the place where you can start the second part of the challenge: skill part. In skill part you have to drive the robot to get points

Ptuj is the oldest town in Slovenia. It is small but really beautiful. Ptuj castle has the best view, you can see almost the whole town from there and also the river. In Ptuj there is a lot of churches everywhere in the city and a lot of activities. I would recommend Ptuj and would happily go back there anytime!

The University of Technology in Maribor here deals with many different robotics parts and the species most common is the follow line. Follow line is a challenge where the goal is to overcome all obstacles by driving a black line along a white platform.First, for us was presented robotics chellenges and Robotics components from robots are made Solutions to what you can use.

Next we looked at industrial robotics and we got to try three different robots. The yellow robot was built to recognize the dice, raise it up and throw it back on the platform. Then the robot was using the camera to figure out which number was visible in the dice. If the number was six, received a prize. The other robot recognized the human figure with a 3d camera. When you waved it,  took a chocolate bar from the tray. When you stretched out a hand and opened a fist, the robot put forth a chocolate bar on your hand.

We came to the university to learn the new and see, and the many challenge races. That this place would evoke more our interest to robotics.

We was a lot to do with playing to learn  fit perfectly into this place we were presented and given ourselves to try out the experiments and many different games which were found there for example Plazma light sword or barbed chair.
And then we were asked to build and program the robotic Lego parts, the school chose this place for visiting because this is an excellent mode to learn and have fun at the same time.
